found $800 raptor, should I buy?

Hi, folks, I was browsing craigslist the other day and I stumbled on a '04 raptor 660 for $800 OBO. This is what the owner says about it. "I am selling my 04 raptor 660. Top end is bad. Just had motor redone completely just paid 2700 for parts and labor. Took down to bad lands rode about 2 hours and it melted piston . I took head off and piston is in 3 pieces. I will not pay to fix and will not give away for free. Open for some trades only if run. If not I will sell only."

Whatya think?

whoops, I noticed on active topics that the category I'm on is raptor 50, 80, and 90. How do I change that?

I got you moved into the 660 section.

I think for $800 it's worth a shot. If all else fails part it out to recoup money.

As long as cam journals are good and combustion chamber in the head and bottom end is good just make sure it gets gone threw and all the broken piston parts are out of it.clean the crap outta the oil pump and screen and if crank rod isn't bad It could be a good buy or it can be a money pit just depends on how bad she's hurt good luck

I am thinking that If he really did rebuild the motor for $2700, It might be a steal. I'll try and contact him this weekend to get some more details, and maybe get him to drop the price a bit

Do you guys think I could make my money back by doing a part-out if it costs to much to fix?

You'd be sitting on parts for awhile the good parts would sell fast if there good and those are the head bottom end cylinder witch is junk I'd just make sure head is good put new cylinder and piston in it maybe a crank and check everything I told you before that head is key thow check the cam journals and combustion chamber

I bought my bike about six years ago for $1900. All the plastics matched and it had no issues. If I were you I'd find one that runs instead of spending money on a gamble. Unless you just want something to work on. In which case I wouldn't go over $400-500 for this one.
