Post How to- paint plastics w/DuPont Bed liner

I have recieved a few PM's and responses to my thread on painting plastics using DuPont Bed liner regarding how to. With all the interest I've decided to post a thread on how i is done rather than going through PM's and the other thread so here it is...

1) Remove plastics from bike.

2) Remove all graphics, stickers, decals, etc.

3) Using acetone, paint thinner, or nail polish remover ( acetone works best) rub off all the access glue left behind from the graphics, decals, stickers etc.

4) Wash plastics completely to remove any dirt, dust or grease.

5) Wipe down plastics completely once again with either acetone, paint thinner, or nail polish remover.

6) Sand plastics with 120 grit sand paper, paying special attention to any creases and making sure not to miss any spots. It may seem like to much but the rougher the surface the better the bed liner will adhere to the plastic.

7) Repeat step 5. this removes all sanding dust and any left over residues.

8 Using DuPont spray on bed liner, invert can and shake to allow mixing of the solution. When spraying on plastics, do so in 2 light coats using short, even strokes. Be aware that the more you apply to one area the thicker it will turn out.

9) Allow each coat to dry 6 hours.

If you have any questions or concerns along the way feel free to contact me I'd be more than happy to help out anyway possible
Ashton

Thanks, this is a big help.My plastics are kinda beat up and I'm sure this would cover up some of the imperfections.

Thanks again,Grant.

***UPDATE***- to whom it may concern...
Just in case you haven't checked you inboxes' for my PM, the bed liner I used is not DuPont, but rather DUPLICOLOR. This is a typo on my part and as explained in the PM i sent out I've been absent here on RF for ages now. For anybody who has been wanting to do this and couldn't due to not being able to find "DuPont" bed liner, I apologize for the inconvienience. If anybody has any questions/concerns regarding this or would like some more info I'd be more than willing to help out.
