Looking at going for a bigger throttle body, my bike has barker duals, 11.5 tech piston, mild port by HPS, HC3, PC3, and K&N on an adapter in the stock box; any suggestions as to if I should go +3 or just go straight to the 54mm? I'm not to worried about the cold start deal on the 54mm I usually give my bike an ample amount of warm up time. I ride both trails and go to silver lake and hit the dunes quite often as well, I'd like to be able to keep a box for the trails and it's much easier to do on the +3 but I'm no newbie to fabrication so an aluminum one can be built. Is it worth my extra money and effort to go to the 54mm?
Your build should yield about 60HP, and a +2 throttle body would be sufficient. But most do a +3 for about the same price, and should be good for around 70HP. I've even seen a bore of +3.5 on facebook. If you plan on a bigger build, stroker, big bore, drag race cam, or high RPM power band, than the 50mm or 54mm may be for you.
I'm seriously looking into the empire 50mm option since I can still use an FCI, I don't know how much more I'll do to it I think the 50mm won't take too much from the bottom end and leave plenty of room to grow later on, thanks for the advice guys.
+3 will be fine. I put mine on before I replaced piston and noticed more top end. If after you don't feel like it was enough. Scrap the stock arm and get a fci
So I've got this crazy idea in my head recently of doing a microsquirt conversion and building a plenum after the throttle body, I could hijack a 50mm throttle body from a 3.0L ranger that way. Another plus of microsquirt if I added a cam position sensor to the equation I could do a lot better fine tuning and run a bigger injector and maybe be able to smooth the idle out enough to drop it down even lower. The plenum idea may not do much but hey what could it hurt, I'd just have to build a bung for the injector close to the head since I can't run it on the throttle body that way.
