2017 WR250f in the sights

I have another toy in sight. I had an older WR and upgraded to my 250f a few years back. Totally miss the gearing ratio difference. Now at my age I plan on one more hurrah (so I say) to enjoy a new bike. Went and looked at 2017 models today, knowing that's what I will be getting in March, (come on March!). Now, the wife is totally aware and fine with knowing new bike is coming but of course I told her they only around $5000 (Ya right).

Stay tuned for another stable toy. I really enjoy 2 wheels on most of the rides I go on, really only bought the Raptor for sand but got carried away with mods, lol.

Plan on going in with cash in hand to get the best deal. Any tips from those that have bought from dealers for new machine ??

I actually think I will be going for the bigger WR450f the more I ponder it. Better to have power and not need it than needing the power and not having it. I have had plenty of bikes in the past, 125's, couple 2 stroke 250's (loved those), my older WR and currently the yz250f.

Ya I think I am due to step up to that 450 platform. Make it street legal too.

These next few months are going to drive me insane as I do my homework lol. Still set on the 450 platform, now it's choice of company. Yamah or Honda. Honda is a bit cheaper but still is a carb'd bike whereas Yammi has FI. Not too much of a deal breaker but Honda has the progressive dampener standard on their bikes.

I have owned both brands so we all know they are great machines so I have my work ahead of me...

Around this area, KTM is the brand considered to be the best on two wheels.
Lots of power, great engine. Austrian Engineering

250s are fun and light and easy to handle, but a 450 is the way to go with your experience.
The power difference is substantial when it comes to top end and hills. IMO

Another point for Team Honda has been Craigslist postings. I am always on there and the amount of WR450's for sale are constant. It is very rare to see a CRF450x on there. Leads me to believe that these owners are very happy with them. I would be inclined to buy an 08 up x from a buyer if it was in great shape, but buying new and knowing the hours is even better. My truck is paid off along with some other items, so now it's saving for the toy. I would rather save for a few months and if I need to get a loan it would be minimal, something I can pay off within the year really but have the new bike in the spring of 2017.

I like the new Husqvarna too. They have a full Enduro line if you want it streetable too.
These were the thing to have back in the 70's and they are back again and stronger then ever.

My concerns with Husqvarna, KTM, and even Beta is the price of parts once needed to buy any. Beta has a pretty nice 2 stroke trail bike with electric start even.

I so wanted a Husqvarna back in the day too. Heck, now you have me looking in that direction now....

I almost bought a KTM ATV back when they made them.
They were definitely more expensive off the dealer floor than anybody else, but for good reason.
They had full chrome moly frames, top of the line shocks, and basically every MX upgrade included right out of the box.

My brother rides KTM 250 and 450 and hasn't had any problem with parts/costs.
He added a 6th gear to the trans, a taller front tire and a desert tank on his current bike.

My nearest independent MX shop is a Husqvarna dealer and carries a full line.

I think people get caught up in the "Ride Now" chains that carry the big japanese brands.
Don't get me wrong, I love my Yamaha's, especially when it comes to ATVs.
And the YZ450F is a really awesome bike.
But if I were shopping around, I would have to include KTM and Husqvarna in the mix.

Now you have me thinking... there are some really nice choices out there now.

I might go visit a dealer that's pretty close to me. They carry KTM and Husqvarna. Not sure if I want to bleed that much just to enjoy fire roads and open woodsy trails. Graham Jarvis makes it look too easy.
