Ok, now I'm truly puzzled. I pulled out air filter and checked all hoses, vacuums, carb boots and put it all back together. It fired right up and idled perfectly. Gave it some gas and everything seems great. I have no clue what caused it to run so poorly so I am going to take it out this weekend and give it a good run. It seems perfect now.

Can someone confirm that an 05 DOES NOT have the PB sensor?

pretty sure you need to check again...i've read that the 01-04's all have this PB sensor. I looked on mine and can't find it although mine is up and running smooth again :-)

05's are NOT supposed to have a PB switch (but just as with 01's NOT having the reverse RPM limiter, but some do, there's always the chance of a small cross-over)

i would say clean the carb and maybe put some new gas in it, sometimes with old gas in there will be problems like that, run high octane gas in it though and hopefully that helps.

High octane fuel is harder for a stock engine to digest then regular fuel, high test fuel is intended for engines that have higher compression...........

Can't fight a beast that won't show it's head. Wait till the proglem shows up again, if it ever does, and we'll try to help you walk through it.

RE: High octane fuel - only needed to eliminate pre-ignition in high compression engines. Does NOTHING for lower compression, actually reduces performance slightly. Has ZERO cleaning properties that regular gas doesn't.

Well I rode this beast all weekend. I put some fresh gas through it and it I haven't experienced the problem since. It's running perfectly. I'm absolutely blown away but how much fun this thing is to ride. The power is unreal. I think it needs new rear brake and possibly disc but other than that, it seems great. Probably need some front tires too. This is way more fun than my seadoo!

Izey, just outa curiosity, what's the 10th digit of your VIN? If it's 5, you are on 05. Anything less and you definitely have a PB switch and RPM limiter. I really think you got your PB switch or connector wet when washing and it's dried out since.

OR

We know that 01's weren't supposed to have the reverse RPM limiter, but many seem to; now I'm wondering whether some 05's still had the PB switch and RPM limiter. Would you mind looking up behind the left headlight and see if there's a white, 2 pin connector with a green/yellow stripe and black wire there? If so, AND if your 10th VIN digit is 5, we have found it!

Of course the other possibility is that your reverse wire connection to the reverse switch is loose/corroded or got intemittent when it got wet, causing the reverse RPM limter to come on. BUT you didn't mention anything about your reverse light coming on during the problem, and it would have assuming it works. Does your reverse light work, when you put the bike in reverse?

I always hate 'magic' fixes and want to understand the real cause/repair of the issue.

And Rob, the Spyder is pure fun. Can't get enough riding on it. Closest thing to riding a quad on the street but legal in CA. AND a whole lot faster than even the Raptor!
