The purpose isn't for increased speed IMO. The reverse gear has a small ratio, meaning there's not much mechanical advantage and not much grunt. The ratio is much closer to that of the 2nd forward gear than the 1st. In order to get the power to overcome obstacles in reverse or try to get unstuck you need higher revs to overcome the small gear ratio, the limiter prevents this.

nydriver if all you're going to do is reverse out of your driveway or in a riding area parking lot then yes, it's quite possible that you'll never need higher revs.

Mike

Photobucket is trash now, use something else.

I would like to do this mod, but the original picture has disappeared... Is there anyway to get a fresh copy?

Did i do this mod wrong? Heres the deal, I did as the directions said soldered and taped all connections but now when i turn on the key and my quad in neutral and push the on/off switch to the left the neutral and reverse light come on but when i start it the reverse light goes out, but comes on when i put it in reverse. So i guess what im asking is did i do something wrong? sorry for the long post, but any advise would be great. Thanks

When I'm drivin in reverse through the woods, I like to feather into reverse...
and the motor cuts in/out based on rpm i believe.

Probably stupid question, but just to be clear...
This eliminates the limiter that causes the engine to bog, correct?

You did nothing wrong. reverse light works when you're in reverse, rpm limiter is gone, right?

Your only issue is the reverse light also comes on when run/stop switch is set to stop.... this is just a 'feature' of the modification.
