How to: change the clutch basket. Pics

OK, this winter I was modifying my engine along with replacing the stock clutch basket. According to many people on this forum, if some mods have been done to the engine, replacing the stoke clutch basket is a must. So, I bought a "PE Billet" clutch basket off e-bay and started replacing it. I decided to share with you guys how I did it. I would not go into details such as "taking off clutch cover and putting it back" and so on... I will focus on the basket itself.
There is one most important and difficult thing to do: a stock basket has 3 rivets, that holds basket assembly together and new basket instruction tells you to DRILL them out . So, I thought that drilling would take long time, a lot of back pain and few drill bitts (unless you have a drill press). I came up with an idea to GRIND the rivets off and knock them out I'll try to explain rest on pictures...
Well, I hope this will help some of you guys. Its too bad that I can load only 4 pics per post

Good info!

I prefer to grind the rivots off on the other end myself, (inside the basket). It's considerably harder to get to 'em from inside the basket, but it leaves no marks on the surface where the new bolt heads tighten down. You'll pretty much destroy the stock basket this way but it's not reusable anyway.

Little hard on that 1/4in drive extension....LOL

good pics, folks need to be carefull around the plastic oil pump drive gear, if you hit it with the gringer you'll be spending a ton of money because you'll have to buy a whole new factory clutch basket to get a new plastic gear

Yes, you can grind inside the basket, its your choice, but the piont of my write up was to do the project fast and eazy. As CSR said, just be careful grinding outside the basket, grind the rivots flash, and use small grinder. I used 4" grinder.

The plastic gear can be changed, but like Mike says, ya can't order a new one seperate from the basket assembly.

+1 for you. Keep it up man. Hopefully this gets stickied for people to use. I did one and had pics too but never got stickied. Stuff like this with good pics should always go up where people can find them quick.

Re: How to: change the clutch basket. Pics

Thanks P.I.P.M. Yeah, I'm trying to do my best to be helpful on this forum too. I learned a lot from this forum, and from guys who taking their time to answer stupid, simple, silly and many hard Qs. That's why I love this forum, because I know that here I will find help and answers I need.
Also I have one suggestion for guys who are in charge of this forum: Maybe instead of sticking topics like this, make an seperate category for topics of this kind and move all similar topics in a new category. We can think of name for this new category... Here is one: "Raptor 660 projects" or "Raptor 660 project details" or something like that... Just a thought.
