The carriers are the same, but they used a different locknut setup. (I think single on 01, double on 02 and up). If you buy an axle with the locknuts, the brake, sprocket, and wheel hubs should all swap over. I haven't tried this myself, as the only 01 I have experience with we threw a durablue elminator on it. I'm fairly certain, but if someone could verify I'm sure raptsson would appreciate it.

If you buy aftermarket, they'll come with a new locknut and you won't have to worry about it.

As long as it's for a 660 raptor it will work, unless it uses the OEM locknut. Heck, banshee axles work too but there's a small offset.

My 01 has double lock nuts. Check the yamaha site and it shows two for the 01 also. They don't have the set screw that the newer years have though.

How do you get the sprocket hub off? Does it just need a whck from a rubber mallet or is there something holding it on?
