Hi. I recently purchased a 2006 raptor 700, she was rode hard and put away wet by the previous owner but ran strong and was at least $1000 less than similar machines in my area, and I’m a pretty good mechanic.
Been enjoying cleaning, sanding, polishing, painting, restoring while waiting for my big amazon order (brakes/wheels-tires/lights/levers/grips/bumpers/filters/etc) to come in and have run into a few things I thought I’d ask about here.
Lower control arms: How do you guys protect them? I had the full coverage plates on my old 250x and hated them. They mud up like crazy and getting it out is a pain. I was considering either spraying them with rubberized undercoat or wrapping them with that flex tape. Sounds kinda cheesy but repainting them constantly will get old fast.
Oil line: The lower oil line, that runs from the sump to lower port on engine, has some rust on it. Does anyone know the wall thickness of this line? I’d like to sand the rust off and paint or plastidip it and save the $80, but if it’s a thin wall then I’ll suck it up and replace it. Last thing I want is a blown oil line on the trails, my kids Polaris 50 has no chance of towing this heavy beast.
Plastic: Some mental midget painted the fenders and they now look like hell. I need to order new, and was reading another thread that the rear is the same as the 2013+ models. Problem I’m having is which model 2013+ indicates blue in color. Partzilla lists several different models in 2014 (random year I entered to find the fender) and I’m assuming that the difference is color, but not sure which is blue. https://www.partzilla.com/catalog/yamaha/atv/2014
Same goes for the front fender. When I put in 2006 there’s several models with different part numbers for them. Could someone direct me to the one that is blue?
Lastly, and kinda nit-picky, is how to get the rubber hoses for oil and coolant clean. I’ve scrubbed these suckers until losing flesh and they won’t go back to a nice black, seems as the mud is baked in. I’d like to make them look new again but can’t seem to get them clean with or without the help of cleaning products.
Thanks in advance!
