hey all. so i recently purchased a 700 with a locked transmission. guy said the chain came off while riding, bunched up around the front sprocket, and then would no longer shift. i assumed it broke teeth and locked it up, which it did. so now that i have replaced those gears and put the bottom end back together im having a "catch" issue between first and second gear. actually i guess it would be between neutral and second. all other gears shift smoothly but you really gotta slam it to go back and forth from first to second. im wondering if there is a bent shift fork in there? something i did? not my first 700 rebuild by any means, but people do make mistakes! any ideas?
How will it shift with the motor off? Wasn't it 3rd gear that was originally bad? Buy, yeah, prolly a bad shift fork, BUT, check your clutch adjustment first. You need some free play at the clutch lever at the case.
It has not been reassembled and ran. As of now its just the bottom end sitting on my bench. Yes, 3rd was the busted gear on both the main drive and output shaft. Ive never had trouble shifting one on my bench before and i dont want to put it in the quad like this.
If you haven't installed the clutch you have to take it back apart. If the clutch is on, release the pressure and see if it helps. Either way I think it'll have to come apart.
