Stock Raptor 700 dyno runs, before Venom Performance injection

I picked up a brand new 2008 Raptor 700 on Oct. 11th from a local dealer. On Oct. 19th, I road tripped to Venom Performance in Michigan to baseline this beast before it's metamorphosis. Here are the prelimary results...

I know there are most likely plenty of stock Raptor 700 dyno graphs on this site, but I thought I'd add some more in different configurations. This will also serve a couple of different purposes. 1.) It will show how this dyno compares to others that have dynoed stock 700's. And the biggie, it will be the same dyno that we'll be using after transforming this 700 from showroom stock to all out sand slinger over the course of the next couple of months!

First off, I'd like to thank John at Venom Performance for taking on this project! I'm sure with his know how, this thing will flat out haul the mail when we're finished! I'd also like to thank Kam at KBR for his contributions in getting this Raptor project off the ground! I'm really looking forward to seeing what we can do!! Although not all the particulars have been decided on, I do know we'll be incorporating a Venom Performance big bore 14.25:1 piston, Venom porting, Kibblewhite springs and + size valves, Hot Cams Stage II cam, Dynatek ignition, bored TB, etc. I'll update as things come together.

Anyhow, here's the preliminary runs. Enjoy, and stay tuned for updates on this build.

For easy graph clarification:
Green- showroom stock
Blue- Airbox lid off, exhaust peashooter still installed
Red- Airbox lid off, peashooter removed

Its amazing how the torque numbers jump just by taking the lid off and removing the but plug....

Very nice, as you can see the Raptors perform very well right from factory

Absolutely!! The day I picked the quad up, I rode it around for awhile, it didn't take long to figure out that these beasts want to BREATH!! Picking up basically 5 ft/lbs of torque over the full band is too cool for words!!

I will say that although I didn't post the a/f readings for the different configurations, I personally wouldn't be scared to run without the lid and peashooter, although it was alittle lean in this configuration. Obviously the bone stock a/f was dead on, the runs with the lid off/peashooter installed stayed between roughly 13.2-13.5:1. With the lid off/peashooter removed, the a/f was about 14:1. -Information only-

What made you decide to go with the Hot Cam over a web or megacycle, just curious

Re: Stock Raptor 700 dyno runs, before Venom Performance injection

The Web Cams are reduced base circle cams. Reduced base circle = steeper ramp rates = quicker valvetrain destruction. They make excellent power no doubt, but at a great cost to the longevity of the valves, springs, etc. I'll gladly sacrifice a couple of hp to gain the extra reliability.

As far as the Megacycle, I'm just not real familiar with them on the Raptors. In the Honda 450r's, they make excellent power in certain builds, but not all.

I've basically just had excellent luck with the Hot Cams, plus, they're really hard to beat for the money...

Re: Stock Raptor 700 dyno runs, before Venom Performance injection

After riding mine without spark arrestor and lid it wasn't that far from good A/F ratio. I pulled the plug and was slightly lean, but not too much to worry about IMO.

Though it did have a stumble off the idle, and sometimes a backfire, so I went ahead with a new programmer
