12 Volts line for USB port?

I would like to mount a USB port on the handlebar to charge the GPS.
I wonder from where take the 12 Volts line.
I assume that to go directly to the battery it's an hard work (does it need to remove all the palstics?). Isn't it?
An alternative could be to use the 12 Volts present at the ignition Key: but I'm not sure that the size of the cable is enough to charge the GPS.
Any suggestion?
Many thanks!

If you have the wiring for it hook it right up to the battery. Make sure there is a switch on the unit so you can turn it on and off. All you need to remove is your gas tank cover and the hood and you can feed the wires through. Very simple like 5 minute installation. I have a USB charger like that installed as well
