DHein92 Haha mine sat for a week without starting and haven't had any problems to date but now somehow my starter won't engage!

Re: Starter does not engage

Update:

Didn't get a chance to work on it like I wanted, (popped the bolts, but couldn't pry it loose, gasket might be frozen?) but I spun it a bit and put my hand on the casing and the free spin and grind is the starter's smallest gear/starter itself. The one-way and larger gears aren't being engaged.

I think I'm going to have to get a gasket for the cover before I pull it off. Some oil dripped out, how is that replaced? Does engine or tranny fluid reach the starter? (Looks like it needs changing)

I have one and no problems yet, but if it does you can get a re-build for them

WOW! those L&A's have failed?!? they look bullet proof compared to stock. The ones these failed on must have a starting issue being cranked repeatedly. I start mine everyday at least once. stock = 1 year L&A = 3-4 years with no slip in sight. L&A has my vote and will receive another purchase when my wifes stock starts to slip.

Yeah, and I really don't like to brag about it, but the L&A only lasted about twice as long as the stock one way, in approximate number of starts.

Check it anyway, and make sure, it is quite common for these parts to go defective, and I know I got 3 of them.
