I have an 03 and 06 Raptor 80 for my kids. We have had them several years. The 06 is bone stock and the 03 has an FMF exhaust. Historically, the 03 has always been a little faster than the 06. Recently, the 03 is very sluggish and the 06 literally runs away from the 03 in all gears. I have done the following to figure out what is going on with the 03:

Drained fuel, cleaned tank
cleaned carb and all jets
checked compression (140-150)
Adjusted valves (both in middle of spec range)
Put stock exhaust back on
changed spark plug
swapped carbs with the 06
swapped CDI with 06
checked throttle stop to ensure full throttle is available
checked to make sure the brakes aren't dragging

The 03 has always started cold without the choke. No chance with the 06. I keep coming back to carburetion but I am running out of ideas. The engine runs smooth, it just doesn't make power nearly as fast as the 06 or nearly as fast as it has in the past.

Ideas?

thanks

These little 80cc motors should only have 120 psi..
Maybe the clutch is slipping.. The quad is 8 years old now, it could probably use a new clutch.

Atv4life,

Thanks for the response, I appreciate it. If the clutch is slipping, wouldn't the engine rev quicker?

Thanks again
