Where did you connect the jumper box? If the cable between the battery and solenoid or battery and ground is corroded inside the lug or inside the insulation, or the lug is corroded or dirty where it contacts the battery, then clipping on a battery box may bypass the corrosion and make things work.

With your battery box, touch the positive clamp just to the screw on the positive battery terminal - does it start? Now touch the cable lug. Does it start now? If before no, now yes, the cable lug is corroded/dirty.

Put positive box clamp on the positive cable's lug at battery (don't touch the screw). NO start? Now put the box clamp lug on the large lug at solenoid (where the battery cable is bolted on). Start now? Cable is bad - either corroded inside the lug or up inside the insulation.
