after alot of questions and not knowing 100% what to do i came up with this post to help others along. I can confirm this is working without any problems at all on my 2009

I am posting a 5 step (WITH pictures) process to eliminating the speed sensor

This is a step by step of how i did it.

Tools - Ratchet and socket set, screw driver/nut driver, wire cutter and crimping plier

Items needed - 20-22 guage hoop connector, 1 self tapping metal screw, black tape

Time - 15-30 minutes

Step 1 - BY FAR THE MOST IMPORTANT STEP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Battery disconnect

Disconnect the battery using a 10MM socket and ratchet, or a number 3 philips head screw driver. Move wire to the side.

Step 2 - ECU location and removal

pull the rubber surrounding the box and the box at once. it will slide straight up off of a metal holder, mine took a bit of work to get out. pull the whole unit out as far as you can (without damaging it) and lay it over the air box

Step 3 - ECU pig tail connection

remove the ECU connector by pressing in on the plastic locking finger and pull the plug out.

Step 4 - locate the baby blue wire

the baby blue wire will be on the CORNER of the plug. it is a LIGHT blue SOLID wire, mine had army green hash marks every 2 inches or so along it.

Step 5 - Cut and ground the baby blue (light blue) wire to the frame or airbox

I cut my wire to short so i had to use a self tapping screw but the easiest way is to make sure you have a long wire to work with and ground it to the frame using the airbox bolt. CRIMP the connector on and fasten it to one of the two locations stated.

DUE TO SOME CONFUSION
the wire to ground to the frame is coming out of the back of the ECU

This is the final view of the install

If you have any questions send me a PM or post and i will try to answer any questions.

Most get 6-7 mph gain. Nice write up but I am not sold on this yet and will just keep the sensor unplugged for now.

i just got back from a LONG ride and there were zero problems. granted this i can only say from my experience on MY quad but i can tell you this, before i did this 75 was top speed no more even going down a hill. Now i have got full engine power at all times AND my check engine light works

:)DID YOU GET THE SAME RESULT BY JUST UNPLUGGING THE SPEED SENSOR???AND IF SO WHY DOES EVERYONE GO THREW THE HASSLE OF CUTTING AND GROUNDING???I HAVE DONE NEITHER BUT WOULD LIKE TO TRY IT.

Yes, You get the same results by just unplugging the speed sensor.

some have the check engine light come on when the plug is pulled, grounding it "fools" the computer into thinking its not in 5'th so it won't retard the timing, and the check engine functions normal

Best way to get rid of speed limiter is to buy a dynotech ignition. I bought mine from DL700. He put in a custom curve for my mods and one for my future mods dude knows his stuff to.

There is no reason for a switch. Just disconnect the battery and ecu, ground the baby blue wire on the corner of the harness and call it a day. If you unplug the sensor on some bikes the rev limiter will still pull timing and there is no point and on some it works but the check engine light comes on and then run like crap. If you ground the wire the light will not come on and it will guaranteed remove the speed limiter. There are people on this forum that have ran this mod for years with no issues.

+1 I've had it done on mine for over a year and no problem at all works great! Gained almost 6 MPH on GPS and my Vapor.

Does this only benifit you in 5th gear??

I heard someone else talking about it retarding the timing etc.

I just want to make sure it is only in 5th. If so I am not too concerned because Im scaaaaarrrrrreeedd :D to go to fast on the top end so it really isnt an issue for me.

I like to get to my speeds in a hurry, but I have no biz going 75mph plus offroad if I am not in a roll cage .

I know I am a sissy :D

Thanks
