Replaced the starter clutch and starter the other day and tried to start it up last night and it was backfiring very badly which would lead me to think timing problem but i Never messed with the time chain what so ever throughout this fix I only pulled the flywheel and replaced the bearing and gear behind the bearing(I forgot what it is called at the moment). Also it is not a carb problem because that is only 6 months or less I have had it on for.

Did you possibly plug the pickup in backward? Would be a 2 wire plug coming out of stator cover. Other than that, I would think your flywheel spun on crank.

1: You didn't mention the Woodruff key... where is it?
2: A brand new carb will plug up just as easily as a 10 year old one - IF they both sit for 6 months with ethanol containing fuel in them.
