Its a coin toss between the 2 IMO. As far as placement I would say on the hose coming from the block returning to the radiator since that's where most of your heat is going to be rather than the inlet hose.

I could be wrong but you could get a plain cooler (no temp gauge) and install it on the inlet for extra cooling.

Along with the addition of Engine Ice you'll be good to go. :D

I have the ESR and am very happy with it...you want to place it in the return line under the tank, you want to know what the motor temp is not the temp of the water in the radiator.

This is where I mounted mines. I think I would rather know the temp coming out of the head than the temp after it has been cooled by the radiator. I also have a inline cooler on my inlet hose, so my temps are great. Next i'm gonna be installing some engine ice.

Get the digital temperature sensor, a trail tech computer. It is very helpful for trail ridding, or any ridding for that matter.
