My 01 660 has an FMF header and an FMF Power Core 2 silencer on it. Every bit of the packing is out of the silencer. The thing might as well just be a straight pipe. Is the lack of back pressure going to hurt performance?
Also, does anyone else have a USED silencer that would still work with my FMF header?

I have a pc 4, runs much better with packing in it. My guess is that it acts more like a pipe, the free space seems to make it run yucky, I even tried rejet to jet it to run w/o packing, ...no go. not sure if it is "bad" though

Yes, you need back pressure. You will cause damage to the engine if your bike was straight piped. Unless you had a ton of mods then you could run pipes with little back pressure.

You need back pressure, but with a full exhaust (even one without packing) you should plenty to keep it from being damaged.

You don't need to buy a new canister, you can repack the one you've got. Repacking kits are around 40 bucks I think.
