Engine rebuild.

So I'm about to get my 660 rebuilt. I've found a kit with a 686 big bore, stage 3 hot cam, and a +4 stroker. Was just wondering if there would be any issue, and what other stuff I'll need to do. Besides the carbs. Some advice and experience pertaining to this setup. I'm gonna be rebuilding this quad from the ground up. Not all at once but eventually. I also do plan to use a full Yoshimura with this engine.

Post the kit you want to buy showing the brand of the cylinder and crank.
I'll be purchasing thru the guy rebuilding. I'll post a picture of the kit info he sent me.
Compression? CP pistons HIGHLY recommended over JE
Stage 3 cam- would be smart to do a full upgrade on valves and valve springs
If compressions is 11:1 or greater, a CP conrod is a good idea

Best to use OEM cylinder and have it bored to match your piston. Aftermarket cylinders are iffy at best

Others will have more info, thats all i have time for now

The cylinder is chyknees. The brand of the clutch kit is not listed , if he was using an OEM clutch he would have listed that. Good luck.

Clutch isn't that bad to replace. The engine needs a top end already. I just wanted to redo the hole thing to basically have a brand new engine. Like I said I plan on redoing the entire thing. Eventually. Just figured this was the best place to start.
Hotrods cranks have a questionable track record, some of the cylinders will drop the sleeve a little and lose the headgssket seal, I believe the hotcam 3 on 660s require a valve spring upgrade as well.
lots of great info here so trust me when i say listen to them. especially about the cylinder, you could damage and have to redo all your work. i rebuilt mine 3 yrs ago and this website was a life saver for information.

What about a stage 2 cam? Well what crank do you recommend. I like the idea of a stroker. And I definitely want to put a big bore.

Whatever stroke you want on the oem core. Crankworks is the common place for that service.

Stage 2 still needs new valve springs at minimum, but really should get new valves on a 20 year old machine.

As a general rule and others have pointed out, the more non oem parts you put in there means more likely to fail especially with these machines aging. You're basically asking for trouble if you put a hotrods stroker crank and non oem cylinder with a high comp piston. As montana said "good luck" with that.
