About to buy a grease gun, any brands to definitely buy, or avoid?
Or is a grease gun, a grease gun, and it just doesn't matter?
Since I do deep water crossings and mud holes, would a water proof grease be preferable for my new 700?

Yes, yes & yes!

Any grease gun will work. You can pick one up at any hardware, auto parts or home improvement store. Regarding the grease, you definitely want waterproof grease to protect the bearings and swing points from water intrusion, which will cause them to rust and fail. Stick to name brand grease, don't buy cheap crap. Use Valvoline, Royal Purple or Bel Ray

I use "Red and Tacky" grease. Some watercraft grease is good too. All greases aren't compatible, so pick one and stick with it. Some are water dissolvable.
While apart, I put grease fittings in the swingarm pivots as well as axle carrier.
Be sure grease doesn't get on the brakes.
