By the time you can see the gap and notice the wheel wobble, you have usually chewed up the entire bearing and possibly damaged the bearing carrier and likely the axle too.
Hopefully only new bearings are necessary.
Don't be hard on your self about it. A used quad of that age was due for this sort of thing.
This is why two of my quads now have "Lonestar Rearend"s
You may want to check a forum vendor for a good deal on these items, but I recommend the brand for their build quality and lifetime warranty. and they are across town from me.

Just remembered, if you go the lonestar route, you will also need the drive sprocket hub from Lonestar. The sealing edge that rides in the bearing carrier is usually chewed up too.

This can also happen if the chain tension is too tight. It pulls hard when you catch air and crushes the bearings with every jump. So make sure you follow the shop manual for the proper chain slack adjustment.

Damn that axle is sweet. Stainless Steel and adjustable.. ohh momma. I want one now..lol

Wow I didn't know they were stainless. That's sweet! Probably not quite as strong though.....thinking of the splines

Stainless is strong, plus it comes with a Lifetime Warranty.
