Hi, I have a 2004 660. Just came back from Glamis and noticed the rear axle was slightly bent. I ordered a replacement (used, but straight) on eBay. I would like to know if I need any special tools or knowledge to replace the axle. We're pretty experienced with quad repairs, but we've never done an axle and the dealer wants $250 in labor.

Also, when I put the thing in reverse, it wants to go way too fast. Usually reverse is a slow, powerful gear. This last trip, I stalled it a few times in reverse before I realized that the reverse gear was now like 5th gear (i.e. when letting out the clutch in reverse I need to do it very slowly with lots of gas, as if I was starting from a stop in 5th gear). What the heck could cause that?

I appreciate any suggestions and advice. Thanks! [email protected]

Now that the axle part is out of the way (very simple as those things go), let's address the other.

It's all common, nothing you're experiencing that isn't the same on every other 02-05 660 raptor. Way too high of a gear and a short limiter.
