Rubber axle/hub caps

What does everyone do with the stock rubber axle caps that come on the fronts? They are a very loose fit, and seem like they'll last for about 10 minutes' worth of the first ride, if that long.

Quadbush? Toss on ground, cover with sphaghnum, water, tamp down...

Wall art for the garage?

Rubber shot glasses?

They are easily replaced, just rob your neighbor's kids Big-Wheel.

Viola.

OK, so how long do they stay on?

Any reason for concern if they get lost? (reduced bearing life, etc...)

They look purely cosmetic, to me. Anyone know otherwise?
Looks are about the only thing they r for....lost mine my first time riding
Anyone have a pic, I'm not sure I ever had any.
I got over 100 hours on mine and I still have em. I must not be ridin' hard enough. :grin_nod:
mine gone after 1st ride as well
I have seen a few on the trails and at a few local riding spots. I should pick em up and sell em back to you guys J/K.
I recently lost one of mine, Just went to the dealer and picked up a new one for 10 bucks or something.
Bummer I woulda sold you one for 9.
those and the plastic frame plugs, right behind the bumper, snatch em off the bikes at the dealer, they come off by hand and dont cost much :grin_nod: :grin_nod: :grin_nod: :grin_nod:
Put a bead of silicone form-a-gasket (or similar material) on the mating surface inside the hubcap and push it on. It'll stay on that way and will keep water and other crap away from the hub.

That was my impression---that these are there for the same reason that a dust cap is on a car/truck's axle/spindle. But since they seem to come off so easily during normal usage, I had to ask...

Are the front bearings sealed, or packable like a car/truck? If sealed, then these are cosmetic caps, if packable, then these are _supposed_ to offer some dirt/water protection.
Interesting, I just looked at the pics from when I picked it up and it didn't even have them to begin with.

I think if they were ment to do more than look good Yamaha would have done a better job at makin sure they stay on
