My kit had a light accident. Hit a fence with the front wheel. Kid OK but something on the front suspension is bend. The starter is also dead. Nothing happens when you press the botton. Can anyone help with the starter problem?
Bet that you bent a tie rod. Those stock Yamaha tie rods bend if you sneeze in their general direction.
As for the starter. Need more info.....
Will the lights come on when you turn on the key? If not check your battery connections or the key switch that the impact did not break/disconnect any of the wires to the key assembly. Check the starter butten wires and assembly on the bars and make sure no wires came loose there or the housing is damaged.
Follow the heavy gauge wire from the starter itself to the starter relay. On the front side where that wire connects there is another heavy gauge wire that goes to the battery. Jump these two wires (screwdriver works well) and it should engage the starter if the starter is still working. Make sure the ignition is on (key).
Try a few things and give us a little more info and we will help you get it going again.
Not necessarily, but probably yes. That is good. The relay is only like $25 and the starter is $200 +.
I would check the starter button on the handle bars first. If you have access to a meter. Check that you have current going out after the starter button is pushed, then power going in and out of the relay and so on.
Disconnected plugs and traced the problem to the starter button. Tried to take the switch appart, but could not get the thing out. After long struggle tested again and it seemed OK..... Put everything together and it worked. Loose contact /dirt ?
Suspension was OK. Front wheel was bend.
Shorting the starter relay out, as decribed below, is a good trick to know.
