so last time i went to torque my steering stem nut the threads on the nut stripped and had a hell of a time getting it back off. my question is should i still try to torque it to 130 lbs or go with less lbs? loctite with less lbs maybe? just dont wanna deal with a stripped nut again. thanks

it sounds like last time the tread 'picked' up' meaning the it started to peal off inside the nut which is what caused the problem getting the nut back off.


As a split pin is used then I would be more inclined to put a little grease on the thread to stop it pickin up and then tighten it to 130lbs.
