hi im new here, I have a stock 660.

it will ride fine for around 30-45 mins without a problem.
once this time has past it will start to splutter as if it is cutting out and starting back up.

I noticed that when it does this the reverse light will come on some times can be dim and sometimes bright, I tred earthing out the reverse wire but this hassent solved my problem.

I have loked at the cdi and coil and they are not the original Yamaha.

HOW did you 'try to earth the reverse wire'?

Your symptoms are exaclty what is caused when the reverse switch wire is loose on the switch lug. It's the Green/white wire with slip on right angle connector, plugged into the switch just below and in front of the output sprocket.

Unplug it, clean it and the pin it plugs on to, tighten it up by squeezing a bit with pliers and then plug it back in.

VOILA, your problem should be gone.

No, if your light has gone out, it's not the reverse RPM limiter.

Try the parking brake limiter - unplug the PB switch.
