im no light weight at 260, but hes 225-230. we switch bikes, but cant really tell a difference because he cant shift. i knew he had the advantage, but we both smoke a 150lb guy on a pretty modded banshee, and kinda dismissed the fact that 30lbs could make up 6 lengths. ill try a port/polish and big bore and see what happens. from what i understand, a cam doesnt add much power, it just disperses it differently?
The weight will always be an issue, and it does in fact make a difference. I dont know about 6 lengths though....but when you think about it thats 30 lbs of your weight plus 46 lbs of dead machine weight....76 lbs!!! ...that is pretty big.
AND he has you out modded.
A cam DOES give you HP and it unleashes more power everywhere. The stage I is an all around cam. In talking with Jason from rocket factory, the stock cam is actually one of the most restrictive parts on the machine. Its horrible. Its not allowed to rev out at all. From the info I have gathered I HIGHLY recomend changing out the cam, especially in conjunction with either a high comp stock bore, OR a high comp big bore.
Dude on the banshee suffers from lack of traction. If banshee's could actually put the power to the ground they would be even more scary! In my experience in the hard pack dirt and gravel it took a 65hp + shee to even stand a chance against a 48-50 hp yfz....and it just had to do with traction and getting power to the ground.
Put them on asphault and its a whole nother story!! haha.
Anyway, you can more than beat him in a drag...its just going to take equal mods to do it, or maybe slightly more mods...who knows. One thing I know is YFZ's are very fast quads with just bolt ons...but you cant get a whole lot out of them with out going crazy..and even then there are limits. Its very hard to get yfz's out of the 50's. Its takes nothing to get a 700 into the 60's.
YFZ's are generally quick and have abrupt instant power (short stroke big bore)...the 700's have long drawn out power with an extreme amount of torque (long stroke big bore) and usually pulls a yfz pretty bad after third with equal mods.
usually its anybody's race out of the hole.....though my buddy and I switch quads and its pretty much the same results reguardless. 2nd gear starts...end of 2nd the 700 starts its pull.....third the 700 starts walking....4th its lights out.
