Learn to shift!!! j/k!!!! Shocks.
a cam, and porting will be the easist power mods

then, high comp, bore, stroke
how modded is his yfz? that will tell you what you need to do a little more...
ive already got yfz front shocks, and i dont think i can shift any faster. i dont let off the gas and just tap the clutch as i upshift. im ahead thru 3rd gear, prolly because he shifts slow, but in 4th he creeps, and 5th is gone by 6 lengths or so. power wise, his bike has big bore, carb, cam, filter, exhaust, clutch, etc.

i dont think 1 mod alone can make up for what id need to outrun him...

One mod will NOS :grin_nod:
Or a new jockey :grin_nod: J/K
Whaddaya weigh?

Drop 20 pounds and you'll be walking. If you're already skin and bones, trim weight from quad.

Accleration is a power to weight ratio thing....
well if ya got some stock tires get some new one's I RAZR's hook like hell
With his mods you;ll need to start looking at cam, port polish then bigbore
I'd stay away from the nos though
those are some decent mods on the yfz...and his quad IS infact fast. I dont want to get into another yfz vs 700 thing, but mod for mod the 700 is indeed in every way faster. If he has more mods than you (which he does) then its not too suprising he is getting you. He has more hp and a VERY significant weight advantage.
How much do you weigh vs he? What tires are you running?

All I can say is its "good night Irene" when my buddies bolt on modded yfz goes up against my bolt on modded 700. Its not even funny. We race in hard pack/ gravel. On pavement its closer..but the 700 still nails him and it gets worst as the speed increases.

SO....depending on the weight issue, and what tires you are running, you need to do some motor mods. Cam, porting, high comp, big bore.....any or all those will get you closer or give you the win....its hard telling.

Its also hard to know if your shifting right. You cant string it out like on the 450....you have to shift and keep it in the heart of the power which is all down in the low-mid range. Use that torque in your advantage....thats how the 700 makes up for the weight difference...cause its certainly not with HP...as they are pretty much the same stock and with bolt on mods.

Do you motor mods and you will have NO problem! 700 is capable of a lot more power! Takes nothing to get into the 60's!

im no light weight at 260, but hes 225-230. we switch bikes, but cant really tell a difference because he cant shift. i knew he had the advantage, but we both smoke a 150lb guy on a pretty modded banshee, and kinda dismissed the fact that 30lbs could make up 6 lengths. ill try a port/polish and big bore and see what happens. from what i understand, a cam doesnt add much power, it just disperses it differently?
Wi-Fi high speed internet or a small tap for the keg on the swingarm.

The weight will always be an issue, and it does in fact make a difference. I dont know about 6 lengths though....but when you think about it thats 30 lbs of your weight plus 46 lbs of dead machine weight....76 lbs!!! ...that is pretty big.
AND he has you out modded.
A cam DOES give you HP and it unleashes more power everywhere. The stage I is an all around cam. In talking with Jason from rocket factory, the stock cam is actually one of the most restrictive parts on the machine. Its horrible. Its not allowed to rev out at all. From the info I have gathered I HIGHLY recomend changing out the cam, especially in conjunction with either a high comp stock bore, OR a high comp big bore.
Dude on the banshee suffers from lack of traction. If banshee's could actually put the power to the ground they would be even more scary! In my experience in the hard pack dirt and gravel it took a 65hp + shee to even stand a chance against a 48-50 hp yfz....and it just had to do with traction and getting power to the ground.
Put them on asphault and its a whole nother story!! haha.

Anyway, you can more than beat him in a drag...its just going to take equal mods to do it, or maybe slightly more mods...who knows. One thing I know is YFZ's are very fast quads with just bolt ons...but you cant get a whole lot out of them with out going crazy..and even then there are limits. Its very hard to get yfz's out of the 50's. Its takes nothing to get a 700 into the 60's.
YFZ's are generally quick and have abrupt instant power (short stroke big bore)...the 700's have long drawn out power with an extreme amount of torque (long stroke big bore) and usually pulls a yfz pretty bad after third with equal mods.
usually its anybody's race out of the hole.....though my buddy and I switch quads and its pretty much the same results reguardless. 2nd gear starts...end of 2nd the 700 starts its pull.....third the 700 starts walking....4th its lights out.

all of these races were on the street. in dirt i pull a little better out the hole because im heavier and launch better, but the yfz still runs me down. the banshee is stupid slow from a stop in the dirt, and hes been riding it for 6 years...
I own a stock 06 SE and my friend own a 06 YFZ and we have done a few races, (Sand and street) on the sand is not even funny the way, I pull on him. Now on the street the race goes who ever gets the hit.. I weigh 205 and he weighs 165.

Your really scared me with this thread, because i just order a PC3, Pro filter, LRD PRO4R FULL EXHAUST PIPE and a 15T without telling him :satan:

You made me feel like i wasted my money...
He has more HP than you and is lighter than you, your going to loose till you overcome that gap.

Cam it and put a high comp. piston in there and you will make it a drivers race.
^^^I think you're a little late for this one :D
thats odd I got the mods listed below and I raced vs a yfz 450 that had 3 mod, barrets, 22 inch and upgear sprocket and won by a long shot.

do you second gear launch do you shift under 6500 rpm? do you have your speed limter grounded, 4 and 5 th gear has speed limiter if you didnt know. I run also with octane bosster 2.5 oz for 2 gallons of 91 oct gas.
