I've had the new chain in my tool bag for a little over a year, but just haven't changed it yet. When do I know I can't push the next trip out of my chain? It is rattling against the slides, pretty loose, and needs to be either tightened or replaced. Which should i do?

Do you still have room to adjust it? If it's that loose, then you probably need some new sprockets to depending how long it's been like that.

Simple - It should have between 3/4 to 1" of travel when you grab in center, top side, and pull up and down on it (preferably with a buddy sitting on the quad). If it is more than this, adjust. If you can't adjust any further, replace.

The rear sprocket was worn out, and the chain stretched a bit. The front sprocket had been changed to a 12T at some time before i got it. I picked up a new 13T, but I'm thinking of reusing the 12T. The 13T will make it a bit faster, but less quick, as I understand it. With the pipe, jets, air box, CDI box, maybe it would be good with the 13T.

Any opinions?

order both new sprockets and replace everything at once.

Thanks Mike,
In the absence of an answer, I played it safe and put in the new 13T sprocket. It actually loaded easier than it used to, so maybe the stock gearing is good with my mods.

Do you have the deal on Amzoil oil filters for the Raptors using the Mazda sizes? I've found my Kaw 700s take the same filter as well, so use quite a few filters. How about for the Joyner 650 2 cylinder?
