Last summer some kid contacted me needing cash for his YZ250. I was like sure since I and gave him $225. He wanted 400 but lets face it I pay what I want too and it needed more then just "a new engine case" They always do lol.
Got this clean 87 in.
I started building it up stairs in the house. I kept doing that until it got bigger. One day I carried it down the steps and into the garage.
I was not sure if the gold was going to work with the colors I picked so i had hubs and rims powder coated black. I replaced them myself and put on new tires. Next was shocks rebuilt at the race shop. Most of the factory plastics cleaned up nice with purple power. I might be getting rid of the black front end for white. As much as I like black its starting to burn me out. Just like the seat is being red might go black. I work on this a few hours a week.
Top end was sent out to www.eric-gorr.com to be bored, ported for woods riding and have power valve serviced. He has done other motors for me and is great at it and pretty fair on price. I am waiting for top end to be done and currently redoing the bottom end. When the kid busted a hole in the case aluminum went every ware. I found some in the crank bearings so I removed them. All engine hardware was replaced with allen head stainless steel bolts. I hate Phillips head screws.
Since I have months now due to broken foot this one will get be done slowly. I have 4 machines I am working on currently, some need done sooner then others.
Some will say the bike is old and is junk. I redo the old stuff because by the time I buy a bike thats 5-7 years old its going to be tired, it will need the same thing done. It will cost me more and well the 80's stuff is just cool.
