Just the head and base. the timeing chain tensioner really needs one though. I used some rtv and it's been fine but I would get one as cheap as they are. I really don't know why yamaha didn't o ring it like most other quads.

Timing chain tensioner typically is on the cylinder. . .

Did you guys port too?

With so little work / time, what kind of gains did you get?

Hmmm 4-hours and I can beat most of the similar bikes out there. . . STOP!!!

It's easy.
I changed out my piston today. I'm just waiting on gaskets to put her back together. She should scream pretty good!!!

I sent the head to Sparky yfz, he did the porting, valve job, and put a X2 cam in it. I also put a JE 12.5:1 piston in it. Oh yeah, I upgraded to a PCIII as well.

The hardest part of th piston change was installing the piston clips.

Hmmmm - Load up the trailer and head to Sparky's place for a weekend. . . schedule it to have him port the head get the 105.5 jug and piston and do it all in a weekend. . . :grin_nod: How much land you got Sparky? Landing my big-rig takes up some space! Will work for speed. . .

Put one side in before you put the piston on the rod and slide the wrist pin in. Also put something in the hole under the piston to keep the other one from falling down into the crank case if you drop it. Look out for those alignment dows they can come out and drop in too. Took me 30min to fish one out with a magnet.

anybody know off hand the circlip size?i have a 20mm circlip installer..since you can do this ont he bike ,its something im thinking about..keep us informed of the before and after power wise..was it worth it?..
Hammer might help you with that question.....I got the stuff comming this week but will probably wait till fall.....depending how fire season is going.

Not sure on the circlip size but I just used a small flat screwdriver to put em in. On the power yes it was well worth it. I finally came up with a good map that pulls strong all the way through but even before that on a logging road we were moveing on in 4th and I could power wheelie over small humps in the road. If I was guessing I'd say we were doing 45 to 50 mph.

i know this has prob been asked a few hundred times..lol..with a cam,p and p,and 11-1 piston...will it run all day on 91 octane...what if you got some bad gas, does it just run chitty or do you pop the engine?im used to 2 strokes and a bit of bad gas and she burns down..does the 4 stroke have a greater tolerance to some bad fuel?thnx by the way hammer..have you ran beside another raptor for comparo sake?

I run 91 to 93. What ever is aviliable with no problems at all. No haven't had a chance but from stock it's a huge improvement in power. I'm sure i could kill a stocker even with the 3 mods.

Yeah I did it yesterday. I just got back from breaking it in…..well the cam anyway. Hot Cam says to run it for 30 minutes straight around 3000 rpm and stresses not to let it idle.
The install went good considering all the distractions I happen to have. Took me about 9 hours. First time ever into a 4 stroke including a trip to Sears to get the right feeler gauge. I am running the Hot Cam stage II and a JE 11:1 piston, Ron Wood pipe, GYT-R intake/High flow filter and Dobeck. Put the power right were I wanted it. Opened it up a couple of times after the 30 minutes and it pulls a lot harder up top and didn’t loose any bottom. I am very happy with it. Now am going to get it dyno tuned and be done with it.....although it feels right on as it is.
