So I'm getting ready to do the big 3 on the newer raptor and I want to know what I should go with. A foam or K&N style filter with a prefilter. I'm looking for engine protection but my engine to breathe easier too hehe. Not sure if I should run with box on or off ?

What terrain do you ride? Rocky Mountain type trails I would go K&N. Fine silty then foam.

+1 on what Morph suggested. Any fine dusty situations I'd go with a foam style. Unless you're going with the FCI, then their paper style is fine because theirs isn't a K&N. It has more layers than a typical K&N filter. As far as box on or off it depends on what type of riding you do. I run a FCI without a box because my bike never sees water, its primarily a sand bike and the occasional mx track. Now if you see muddy trials I'd go with a box for the added water protection.

k&n filters flow more air than foam because they don't filter as well. foam filters for my baby, never k&n. the physical thickness of a k&n filter media should be proof enuf of the lack of filtering capability.. but to each their own.

I personally don't like foam only due to stickiness. On my dirtbike I buy them ready to go and just buy new when I need it. I don't deal with cleaning them and it's not like I go through a lot anyway. Throw on my rubber gloves, slap it on and go. Now on my Raptor, that K&N gets cleaned a lot since it is rode a lot more. I have had it 7 years on there, not sure if the same foam filterwould go through that many cleanings. So as far as them lasting longer......don't know. My wife's 700 also has K&N but we have only had it for little over a year.

My FCI kit is at home, our neighbor said I had a package or two that he brought in for us, he sent me a pic of the living room chair that looks like Santa Dez friggin stopped by (also should be a chain and sprocket or 3).
I gotta get to that living room before the wife when we get back or it'll for sure be the end of my vacation.
Sorry guys I'll go ramble in the B.S. thread.

I mostly ride finer trails but they're some Rocky mountain type trails too. In the summer it does get dusty so the the FCI one would be better for that. As far as foam which one would be better? I rarely go on mud but I do cross some streams they go about a little over half of my front tire but I cross them super slow. I'm guessing the paper style filter has more performance .

I run the no-toil foam that's ready to go in my dirt bike. Like I said, throw on rubber gloves and slap it on and ride. They are like $15
