Fuel pump issues!!!

So I got my motor in today. Went to start it and the fuel pump wont start up. We traced and traced and traced to figure out what's wrong amd we can figure it out. We switch everything over to my buddys quad like the fuel cut off switch, and couple other things and no luck. There are four wires going into the pump the orange has 12v both blacks are grounds but the red wire isnt getting any juice. We hard wired the pump and the pump does work just wont kick on by its self. Any ideas? I spent 7hrs tracing and swaping parts and I am at a standstill.

Day 2
I went and bought another wire harness and that didn't fix the issue. I took the battery out and cleaned up the connections also. I took my pc3 programmer off and wired it up stock and still the pump wont turn on. I have no idea what it could be. Any ideas??????

Anybody???

Surprised nobody chimed in yet, I am curious what it turns out to be.

You said you switched out several parts from your buddies quad to yours, did you try swapping the fuel pump relay?

#5 ·
I swapped every relay cdi box everything in the back and I bought a new wiring harness and still no power. Everything worked fine on my buddys quad. Is there a sensor on the motor that would cause the fuel pump to not run?????

Btw thanks for the wiring harness, quick amd bad. If anyone needs any parts pm quick and bad he know his stuff and very helpful!!

It starts and runs fine. Its just the fuel pump that wont turn on unless I hot wire it, and it stays on all the time.

Ok I'm sitting hear thinking aboit what it could be... the power comander wont come on when you turn the key on, it is hooked to the tps senson and another sensor......maybe one of those two sensors are not telling the powercomandet to come on and it is also telling the fuel pump to also not come on. Any input??

I work out of town Monday threw Friday so I will have to wait till Friday to find out if that is what it is. What do you guys think?

#11 ·
The power commander won't turn on until the bike is running. I just verified it. Key on nothing, hit the starter and you will see the lights flash, while it is turning over. That's on a pc5, I think you have the pc3, but it should be the same.

#12 ·
You swapped the lean angle sensor right ?

#13 ·
#14 ·
Yeah I swapped the lean angle on my buddys bike and it ran fine. Pretty sure before I took the motor out that when you first turn the key on the pc3 would go up and down then go out after a couple seconds. The ones on youtube are the same. It might be something with the pc5 that doesn't light up.

They did take some of the lights off with the pc5, I guess I do recall some lights, I know my old dobeck lit up like the pc3. I searched all over for the issue, and found something on the other forum, but wiring harness replacement fixed it. I think you got everybody stumped.

I think it is either the tps sensor or the sensor mounted on the fuel rail. Not sure what that sensor is yet but I think it is one of those.

Going to get a throttle body and the sensors tomorrow hopefully that fixes it.

#18 ·
Well go the throttle body hooked up and the fuel pump turned on. So I figured that it was one of the sensors on the throttle body. So I switched the sensors back onto the old throttle body on the bike to try and figure out what sensor it was that was bad and we hooked everything up back on the old tb and everything worked?????????? I'm lost on what it could have been.

Tryed to fire it up ran for 5sec and stopped. It broke the cam bolt off....so now I hot the cam bolt back on and it seems to be turning over really slow, like its battery is dead but the battery is fine.

Wow. I've been searching the forums for two days and even posted on another forum, I'm having the exact same issue with mine. I even unwrapped my harness yesterday and couldn't find anything obvious.

So it's the TB that was having an issue?

#20 ·
Okay what you're saying is that you swapped out the whole TB and everything was working and when you put the old TB back on the bike it worked without messing with the TPS or MAP sensor?

#21 ·
Yep, it was like the new tb reset the Computer? Idk but now my fuel pump works.... now its like the decompression switch isn't working. It turns over really slow like its struggeling. The battery is fine.

#23 ·
You and me both! It is driving me nuts. Check your tilt angle sensor, fuses, relays, and wire harness.

#24 ·
I've checked all the fuses and lean angle sensor. Eliminated those as possibilities. The power commander powers on when I plug it into the laptop. I unhooked the Dyna ignition and put back to stock, also unhooked the PCV and put to stock with no results. I ran power direct to the fuel pump and it works. I unwrapped the harness and found nothing obvious.

Only thing left is to check relays, cdi, and now perhaps what you did!

#25 ·
Yeah I would check all of that try and find someone else with a bike you can swap parts. Check your grounds and everything. When you turn the key on does your dash light up for a sec or nothing?

#26 ·
Dash lights up but the PCV doesn't and the fuel pump won't prime. I've checked all my connections and they're good. All the grounds were good and the battery was fully charged. I know a couple people with 700's but they're hard to get hold of but I'll try and see if I can get their help.

Does all the lights come on when you turn it on or just the neutral light? Bc the tps and the sensor mounted on the fuel rail if they are backwards it will cause the fuel pump to not turn on and it will not give power to your power comander.
