They should have put the engine in a 450 style chassis instead of all of that over engineering they did on the chassis the 700 currently resides in. Honestly, who in the hell wants IRS in a sport quad. By looking at it it would take half a day to change out the rear sprocket. There is a big write up in ATVsport mag about it, next months issue will have a full ride report. Will have to see how it turns out.

For trail riding I'd like to have IRS & last time I checked Yamaha didn't offer IRS on a sport quad.

You are right, Yamaha does not offer IRS on a sport quad and for a very good reason, it sucks. If you want IRS get a 4x4.

Yesterday I went to Sand Mountain UT and there was a 700xx out there that beat my raptor...

 j/k Sorry I had to do it

But for reals there was one out there and I was not impressed at all. It tried to go up the face of sand mountain, granted it is steep, but he didn't even make it up half way. He didnt have paddles on but neither did a lot of Raptor's or 450's that were shooting up it. I thought that it would have made it just fine but he got about half way up and got stuck... oops I guess.

Could you imagine widening the rear on that thing. Longer arms plus longer shafts plus longer draglinks. Man, you could do alot to a raptor for what that would cost.

I think they look ugly as hell on top of being slow heavy and irs.

I read a few reviews, they say it's made for utility owners that want more 'sport'... but I think they made it for dessert racing (baja 1000, dakar, etc). I love my 700R but I'd hate to have to race a 700xx a thousand miles through the dessert. I think the 700xx would smoke a 700R in a long distance dessert race. The 700xx has more rear suspension and is heavier = less rider fatigue.

Since when did a heavier machine equal less rider fatigue? How does that work, I thought less weight to toss around was better?

I saw one at the dealer and the sales guy tried telling me to trade my Raptor in on it because it was a faster machine... Better built... and looks much better...

I told him I wanted him to Drag race me on it and if lost I would think about trading the Raptor in. He told me that it wouldn't be a fair race because he doesn't have any seat time on the 700xx and doesn't know where to shift it at. I called :bs: asked how he knew that ugly turd was a faster machine if he hasn't rode it yet? and bought my oil and left.

That's a good one ... typical salesman BS to make a buck, great comeback with the drag race, lol.

No torque couches for me thanks. Why does IRS suck?

I am not saying the new Honda sucks, I am saying that IRS on a quad just does not feel good. i have ridin quads with IRS and the rear just feels to unprodictable. Feels like it is going to squat to one side and roll over in fast corners.

I currently own a '07 700SE and a '05 KVF "Brute Force" 750i 4x4. I will never have another irs rear quad. As he said, unpredictable and when riding on teh whoops at the dunes or even trails I usually get the feelng after several continous whoops it is going to send me over the handle bars. I can ride my 700r wide open in 3rd gear or faster! with No problems. Yes I know they are diffenent machines but when factoring in the unpredicability, the additional parts and maintenence and those costs, and a ruined day of riding due to a torn cv boot leading to a new axle whic meant more garage time, trips to get parts and ca$h.

I could really use new front shocks to replace the pogo sticks Yamaha put on the '06 & have my rear rebuilt. I wouldn't expect factory shocks to do the trick on an IRS with my fat ass @ 265#'s. A sport quad doesn't weigh 600lbs like a Ute but I'm sure the handling characteristics are the same as you guys mentioned. I feel I could benefit from the trails I ride & would still like a IRS Sport Quad
