Rev - how much is too much

Hey, just a simple question that'll probably make me sound a bit on the mentally challenged side...but I'll ask it anyway.

A lot of my riding is done in pits, where we're in 2nd and 3rd gear, climbing huge hills. (Gotta love the Raptor torque.) On a lot of those hills, the Rappy is revved up pretty hard at times. (Especially when 2nd is a better choice than 3rd for whatever reason.)

My question is - how much rev is too much? Is there a rev limiter in place for every gear, kinda like that in 5th...and I'm just not hitting it? Will it hurt to hold it at this high rev for a long period of time? (In the pit, it'd be no more than 10 seconds or so.) Right now I'm running stock, but when I get my DMC's/Dobeck/Intake I know it'll sound as though I'm revving it even higher, heh. It'd be nice if I had a tach and just asked "when does the Rappy redline?", but I don't have that luxury quite yet.

So how much can I push it before I'm on the verge of blowing up my pride and joy?

Yeah it's got a rev limiter at around 9000 RPM.

I'm talking hills that are 150+ feet high and with quite an incline, spinning a good portion of the way up. This means I won't lose power, but instead hit high RPM's...but have to keep the RPM's up in order to crest the hill. With paddle tires, I can go up the entire hill in first gear, blipping the throttle all the way up, but that's no fun.

To give an idea of how high these hills are, the 300EX I ride with has to get a running start at the hill and has to be topped out in third gear when he hits the bottom. On the way up the hill he has to downshift into second and hammer on it the rest of the way up. He's using Kenda Bear Claw's, and doesn't always make it up the hill.

So I guess my modified question is: There's a rev limiter in every gear that's set around 9000 RPM's? If I'm not hitting the limiter, but holding it up there at 8-8.5k for a period of 10+ seconds, it won't hurt the Raptor?

Unless you got the right gear and cam they'll pull all the way to rev limiter in first four gears.

You should be ok ! I'm holding it @ 8500 rpm for extended period of time (sometimes 5-10min) or more. If your A/F is tune right and you're not bouncing the rev limiter, there should be no problem ! :)

As long as you're not holding it rev limiter the whole way up, you'll be fine.

EDIT: Davepf beat me to it...lol
