CDI Performance Increase?

Hi all! I ran into the common issue a few days ago where the stator goes bad. This was on my 2001 660r. I replaced it today and all is good! One thing people were saying that could be the issue is my CDI since it contains the Ignition Control Module, so I started looking around for some aftermarket ones. I started replacing parts until the issue was fixed cheapest to most expensive until a new stator was put in, so close to a new CDI! :crying but looking at the descriptions for these they claim to increase your performance and go well with custom exhaust, air filters, and jet kits which I have all 3 aftermarketed. It probably wouldn't do much with my low end since I have smaller sprockets and my jet kit, but would it help with top end? I can get about 70mph right now but at least 5 more would be nice! Would it be worth getting a AMR Stage 3 CDI box?

Most of them are just a PROCOM brand CDI with what ever sticker applied over the PROCOM stamp. They don't really do anything for performance. Usually they raise the rev limiter, and get rid of the reverse rev limiter but that's about it. I would stick with the OEM Yamaha CDI for a reliability stand point. Do you really want to get out in the middle of no where, or be on a ride and have a junk Chinese stator take a dump?

The only one that's really worth changing to is a Dyna Digital FS programable CDI. And its only worth it if you need its features like the ability to load custom ignition curves, or need a tach output, or RPM activated switches.

Thanks!

Thanks for your response! I will stick to my stock CDI then. I'm not willing to spend that money if it's not going to do that much. You must have saw my question about cheap chinese stators somewhere or maybe here? I ordered a new permanent one from Ricks Motorsports since they are easy to install. (IMO)

When they were "Rickie Stator" they had a good reputation for quality. Since they sold out and are now called "Ricks" the reputation isn't quite the same.

WELCOME TO THE FORUM.

I don't know if they are the same company or not. I know RM Stator was selling the same junk as Ricky Stator.

I don't have any Ricky Stator experience with the raptor but I do have a huge negative one with the Banshee. Along with a bunch of other Banshee guys.

I actually have an Electro Sport stator in my Raptor.

Regardless, with the OP's mods, an aftermarket CDI will not provide any noticeable performance improvements.

However, some aftermarket CDI's do ignore the speed sensor - so one may be able to get past the 70-75 MPH limitation, BUT only if your mods make enough more power to support the additional drag at the higher speed.

Hello everyone. I know this thread is 6 months old, so it's kinda stupid of me to even post but just wanted to thanks yall for the info. Unfortunately, I never came back to check the other responses until now, because I forgot. I had bought the stator before your responses, but luckily my dealer put a warranty on it even though I installed it, I also got like 35% off because I've been going there since the 90's! So far quad has been running amazing and even after Installing the new stator I noticed a problem, but that was because of my shitty job re-soldering the wrong red wire when I was so desperate to run it in the flood waters. The cable came undone but I did an actual good job on it this time, and I haven't felt it run this good in a long time. Probably cause the IGC is getting the power it needs and the spark plugs are happy now.
